It's the time of year when friends and family get together to celebrate the July 4th holiday. Barbecues, picnics, time off work ... and in Lincoln City, plenty of visitors enjoying themselves on the beach, in rental houses, and at our local restaurants, Community Center and Cultural Center.
Sadly, some of these visitors bring illegal fireworks. You may recall on July 5th, 2018, REIA, in conjunction with Solve, picked up over 800 lbs of trash left behind by groups on the beach and a great deal of that trash was fireworks remnants.
Two things to remember from a NewsGuard article:
1. Setting off illegal fireworks in Oregon is a Class B Misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $10,000.00 and jail time. Items such as M-80s, M-100s and blockbusters are not fireworks, they are federally banned explosives. Just say no.
2. All fireworks are prohibited in all state parks and on ocean beaches.
And, REIA plans to keep eyes on the beach looking for offenders and contacting the police to enforce the law.
The big show on the 4th is at Siletz Bay and worth attending. More here.
